Email Setup Tutorials: Netscape Communicator

Like most of today’s browser suites, Netscape Communicator comes with a full featured email client. Though setting this up to properly use your virtual domain may seem somewhat complicated, its actually quite simple. Just follow these instructions, and if you run into any snags, email support@transonicnet.com, and we’ll help you get set up.

First, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

A new window will pop up. Inside this window there is a white bar on the left hand side, with several group selections. Click once on the
Mail & Groups tab, and five categories will appear beneath it. We will go through these one by one, editing all relevant information.

First, select: Identity

On the right hand side of the pop-up, you will see four fields. The first is Your Name. In this field, enter your first and last name, or some other name you with to be referenced by (e.g. - a company name).

Email address:
Here, you need to enter the username@yourdomain.com .

Reply-to address: You could keep this as the address you want people to reply to.

Organization: Either enter your company/organization name, or leave this blank.

Ok, now return to the white bar, and select the next item under
Mail & Groups, which is Messages.

For
Message Properties, we suggest unchecking the "By Default, send HTML messages" checkbox. All other options can be left alone.

Next, return to the left hand side of the box, and select
Mail Server.

Mail server user name: Enter your username which was sent to you.

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: Enter mail.uunet.ca, or yourISPmailserver.com (generally putting this address sends mail faster).

Incoming mail server: Enter  yourdomain.com

Mail server type: Check POP3. You can choose whether or not to leave messages on the server, most people will want to leave this unchecked.

That’s it! Click OK and you are finished.
